2010, What Comes Now!

When comparing with 2008, and 2007, but specially 2008, 2009 was not as good. 08 was a strong year, and this last year did also bring us some nice comebacks, sophomore and debut albums , EPs and compilations. Already, many artist have announced new releases for 2010, some with fixed dates, tracklistings and even cover arts. Some of them have even been leaked already!! So here goes a list of what I'm expecting:

1. Vampire Weekend - Contra
Vampire Weekend - Contra

Vampire Weekend have already uncovered a couple of songs which have made it into Contra, which is their sophomore release after a very good, but very hyped 2008 release. Many bands put out a good debut, but failed afterwards, if Contra is good, VW might secure a place as one of the favorites of the years to come. Comes out January 12.

2. Spoon - Transference

Spoon - Transference

Spoon are well regarded for having a really consistent career. I ignore most of it, except for their very good 2007 album "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga", which included some really good songs like The Underdog or You've Got My Cherry Bomb. The first song Written in Reverse is already out there. Album comes out January 26.

3. MGMT - Congratulations

MGMT - Congratulations

Same here as with Vampire Weekend, sophomore album from a band who did a very good to excellent debut in 2008. Here they have to prove they will be able to keep it up with songs as Kids, Electric Feel or Time to Pretend. I kinda trust these guys. Congratulations comes out on Spring.

4. Los Campesinos! - Romance is Boring
Los Campesinos! - Romance Is Boring

Back in 2008, I expected a lot more from their debut. That same year they released their seconde album. This is their third album in 2 years. Great speed in the making. Dunno how can the quality control possibly be though.

5. Massive Attack - Heligoland

Massive Attack - Heligoland

I discovered MAssive Attack just last year, and pretty much liked their really original sound. We already got a sneak peek at the cut for this album with the EP "Splitting the Atom" on late 2009. Heligoland contains guest appearances by Damon Albarn, Hope Sandoval, Elbow's Guy Garvey, Martina Topley-Bird, Horace Andy, and Tunde Adibempe. Album is programmed for February 9.

6. Gorillaz - Plastic Beach
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach

With a Blur comeback and after being assigned as head manager for the London 2012 Olympics campaign, it is incredible how Damon Albarn can find time to make a new release with his digital band, Gorillaz. THis is the monkeys third studio albums after two succesful attempts since their debut in 2001.

7. Peter Gabriel - Scratch My Back

Peter Gabriel - Scratch My Back

Peter Gabriel gets inducted with his band Genesis as the class of 2010 in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, although a reunion with full members is still unlikely, well be seen more of the Wall-E theme composer this year, when he releases Scratch my Back on February 15th.

8. Burzum - Belus
Burzum - Belus

I respect Burzum's musical abilities, but I'm not really a fan of the genre he follows. Belus is Burzum's first musical attempt since he was released of prison last year.

Well, in here I have just included those artist which already have an album art, or at least album name, but 2010 brings many new stuff which still has no specific information. In any case, these year expects releases from the following great bands:

- Hot Chip - One life Stand - February 9
- The Magnetic Fields - Realism - January 26
- Beach House - Teen Dream - January 26
- The National
- Beck & Charlotte Gainsbourg - IRM - January 26
- LCD Soundsystem
- Panda Bear
- Interpol
- Joanna Newsom
- The Strokes
- Arcade Fire
- Fleet Foxes
- Outkast
- R.E.M.
